News, posts & activities happening in the village of Geurieβ¦ Here are posts from our Geurie_NSW Instagram pageβ¦
The village stands as the centre of the map, but the heart beats out in the fields beyond it.
This capture by Jasmine W is stunning.
Grasses, trees, open sky. #geurie
Easter fun in Geurie π£

Glorious exploring along the mighty Macquarie River.
Flows have reduced in recent times, river stones popping up with riverbed grasses & weeds.

Incredible article by local Wellington newspaper, The Wellington District Leader.
Mark Griggs, Editor, accurately writes about the disbelief, sadness, frustration and bewilderment felt by the local Geurie community, as it gathered to hear from @transportfornsw about the update (or lack of update) regarding @scabbing_flat_bridge_geurie
Deflated, disappointed & disillusioned appears to summarize how many in the local Geurie community feel about this issue.
Yet, despite the negativity, there is a building, growing, group of people committed to a new bridge for Geurie.

Huge crowd this afternoon at the Geurie Bowling Club as over 75 locals turned out to meet the Damien Pfeiffer the Executive Director Partnerships & Integration West, Regional Integration, Planning, Integration and Passenger @transportfornsw
The meeting was to share the deep felt community frustration around a lack of action for the replacement for the @scabbing_flat_bridge_geurie
Deeply worried locals shared heartfelt concerns as day 900 creeps closer since the bridge was suddenly slapped with a weight restriction in November 2023.
$5M later, and the bridge looks identical to what it did 900 days ago, and it is still plagued with delays, closures and deep impact on the local community.
Sincere thanks to @mitchell_inn_geurie for serving up delicious platters of nibbles for tonight. Hot food, sandwiches & fruit platter. It hit the spot & many being grateful to Mikayla & Jazmin & team for putting together the food.
We live in a fine part of Australia, and the community turned up today made many realise the importance of this issue.

Something very special about popping to collect the mail, grab a milkshake & watch the cars whiz by from the Geurie General Store.
πΈ this time 8 years ago, when @boothagriculture was on maternity leave & times were slower β€οΈ
When did you last grab a milkshake from the General Store?

π Geurie, NSW (the 2021 Census Snapshot)
It is always interesting to look at Geurie, through the lense of decision makers in Sydney & Canberra.
What do they see (behind the computer screen & the data…)
πͺ A small rural community with a strong working backbone
π©π§ Work & Jobs
• Most people work full-time
• Common jobs: trades, community & personal services, clerical roles, managers
• Strong local workforce participation
π Getting Around
• Households average 2–3 cars (ie very car-dependent rural living)
π Age Profile
• Median age: 42
• Slightly older than the NSW average, with a stable, established population
πΎ Overall vibe
A tight-knit rural village with practical jobs, long work hours, and a lifestyle built around space, cars, and community.
When compared against the Australian national average, we have double the average indigenous Australians in the ABS area for Geurie, we own twice the number of cars to the national average, we earn $300/a week less than the average wage & we work much longer hours than the average Australian.
Interestingly, nearly 80% of the occupations or work is linked to a public service or government paid role (the main employer being the local jail/corrective services, admin in government roles & healthcare via Public Health Service delivery). Working in transport (trucks!) is the 5th most common occupation.
Geurie has half the national average terms of tertiary & less than half the national average of professionals. It is dominated with trade, TAFE or year 12 education levels.
This is one way people learn about Geurie - what else do you think is important?
What changes might happen when the next census is done?
